Kane Biotech Appoints Dr. Geoffrey Grant to its Board of Directors
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (January 27, 2004) - Kane Biotech Inc. (TSX-V:KNE), a biotechnology company engaged in the development of products to prevent and disperse bacterial biofilms, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Geoffrey Grant to its Board of Directors. Dr. Grant brings thirty years of pertinent industry and academic experience to the board.

About Dr. Geoffrey Grant
Dr. Grant is currently the Director of the Arlington Technology Incubator (ATI) at the University of Texas. Previous to joining the ATI, Dr. Grant spent five years as the Senior Manager of Research and Technology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, where he led and managed all aspects of technology commercialization and intellectual property protection.
From 1991 until 1993, Dr. Grant served with Micrologix Biotech Inc. (formerly Microtek). During his time as CEO for Micrologix, he oversaw the transition from a privately held entity to a publicly traded company. Following his experience at Micrologix, Dr. Grant served as an independent biotech industry consultant in California until joining the University of
North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 1998.
Dr. Grant began his career as a researcher, serving at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies in San Diego, California as a part of the Neuroendocrinology Group. In addition to authoring numerous publications, grants and patents, Dr. Grant was the co-discoverer of Somatostatin, which became the first genetically engineered peptide made commercially available. Somatostatin was commercialized by Genentech Inc.
Dr. Grant received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia and Ph.D. in Genetics and Cell Biology from the University of California - San Diego.
